    Yes, the company has to be prepared for this. It is one of the principal duties of leaders in a change process. Equip people to lead so that the company's leadership capacity expands.

    It isn't easy, but it is necessary.

    Ed, I really appreciated your leadership by vacuum entry. It's counter-intuitive and so right on. However I will add, the organization must be ready and able to step in and fill the void. And the first time a leader pursues this avenue, it can be pretty scary. They're wondering, "will anyone step up to the plate?" And when able-bodied individuals step forward to fill the void, the leader is also expected to move their game up to the next level, which typically is a void lying just in front of them.
